Kids Rule The Blocks is a free building game for families. This page explains, in plain words, what we keep, why, who can see it, and how to have it deleted. Questions? Email hello@kidsruletheblocks.com.

Who makes accounts

Accounts are made by grown-ups (18 or older) and by teens (13 to 17), who get an account just for themselves. Children under 13 don’t make their own account: a parent adds them to a Family account, and they play under it. If someone says they’re under 13 while signing up, we stop there and store nothing.

What we store

• For the account holder: email address, username, a scrambled copy of the password (we never see the password itself), and whether they’re an adult or a teen.
• For each kid on a Family account: a nickname, the animal picture they chose, and, only if the parent adds it, a birth month and year. We use the birthday to fit the game to a child’s age in future. We never ask a child for an email address, full name, photo or where they live.
• Worlds: each world’s name, what has been built in it, where each player was and their sticker book, and a 30-day history of changes so a grown-up can rewind the world.
• Sharing: which worlds a family was invited into, and the email addresses invites were sent to.
• Blocks kids draw: the pixel pictures and names they give them.
• Safety records: short-lived records to limit repeated sign-in and sign-up tries, and our hosting provider’s standard request logs (which include IP addresses), kept for a short time to keep the service running and secure.

What we don’t do

• No ads, and nothing to buy.
• No tracking, analytics or advertising cookies.
• No selling or renting anyone’s information.
• No chat, and no public worlds or profiles.

Who can see what

• People playing in the same world see each player’s nickname, picture and account username. Only people a grown-up invited can play in a world.
• Birthdays, email addresses and everything in the grown-up area are only ever shown to the account holder.
• The account holder can see who changed a world, and when, in the time machine.

Cookies and this device

We use one cookie to keep you signed in. The game also saves copies of recent worlds on the device (in the browser’s storage) so kids can play without internet; these stay on the device and are removed when you sign out or clear the browser’s data.

Services we use

• Cloudflare hosts the game and stores the data described above.
• Resend sends our emails: address checks, password resets and invites.

They handle information only to provide these services to us.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

We keep an account and its worlds while the account is in use. To delete an account and everything in it (its kids, worlds and drawn blocks), or to see or correct what we hold about you or your child, email hello@kidsruletheblocks.com from the account’s email address. Parents can also change or remove a kid’s nickname, picture and birthday at any time in the grown-up area.
